Make These 8 Tweaks For A Cooler, Calmer You

The pressure to do “more” has always been present but, as we’ve seen, it’s on another level amid a pandemic. Consider this blog post our way of saying it doesn’t need to be that way. You’re allowed to take it easy during challenging times – whether that means regularly using our Yoga Wake Up app or doing nothing at all. Keep reading for more tips.



1. Start Journaling

Getting your thoughts across on paper does wonders for overthinkers and procrastinators alike. Don’t feel like you need to write an entire essay recounting your day or setting new goals? Format your entries as a bulleted list. Write whatever’s on your mind. And remember: There is no right way to journal. You’re doing this for you.

2. Practice Gratitude

Acknowledging your blessings and taking a moment to really revel in what’s going right for you is something not enough of us put into practice. Plus, it benefits your health. A 2012 study published in Personality and Individual Differences states that grateful people are less prone to aches and pains, and report feeling healthier than those who don’t practice gratitude.

3. Stretch Every Day

Honor your body with gentle, mindful movements, courtesy of Yoga Wake Up app’s audio guides. There are plenty of options to fit your schedule that range from a few minutes to 20+. Let the instructors’ soothing voices transport you to a more peaceful environment immediately after pressing play.

4. Take A Walk

Not feeling an at-home HIIT workout? No problem! Bask in fresh air during a brisk walk around your neighborhood. Hey, it still counts as cardio, and because you’re moving your body, you’re still reaping the good-for-you benefits, which include a healthier immune system and increased mental clarity.

5. Meditate

When it comes to meditation, “letting go of expectations” is key, according Ali Owens, a seasoned yoga and meditation teacher. “Our practice is always available to us. Oftentimes, I drop into a meditation the moment I feel out of alignment,” she shares with us. “This can be a short 60-second practice or, if I find myself with more time, I may set up an optimal environment with music, essential oils, proper support so I can recline, etc.”

“I think if we approach the practice with an open mind, we have a better experience – perhaps better than the one we originally planned or anticipated,” adds Owens.

6. Perfect Your Skincare Routine

Implementing a multi-step skincare routine can feel strangely meditative. It’s equal parts self-care and supporting skin health. Of course, it’s not for everybody, but how can you say no to a charcoal mask or hydrating sheet mask after a long (remote) workday?

7. Do Nothing

Didn’t make it through your to-do list? It happens, especially during a pandemic. Give yourself some grace when tackling priority errands or projects. And while you’re at it, make sure to squeeze in some “me-time.” Reward yourself for completing a task with something that makes you happy.

8. Indulge In What Makes You Happy

It’s okay if you’re not eating as healthy or not exercising as much as you did before COVID. We’re still amid an evolving pandemic and there are no rules on what your everyday routine is supposed to look like. Make the mug cake. Binge-watch the show. Skip your workout and drink wine with your friends over Zoom. Create your own “normal.”
